IMANews – Ramadhan 1440 AH / May 2019

Highlights:

It was in the month of Ramadhan that the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind, clear messages giving guidance and distinguishing between right and wrong. So any one of you who is present that month should fast, and anyone who is ill or on a journey should make up for the lost days by fasting on other days later. God wants ease for you, not hardship. He wants you to complete the prescribed period and to glorify Him for having guided you, so that you may be thankful. [2:185]

Annual IMAN Qur’an Conference has been scheduled for Saturday June 1st and June 2nd. Please click separate announcement for details.

So that the daily programs conclude at a reasonable time during these long days, volunteers and program organizers request your assistance and cooperation to vacate the building quickly and quietly after the program minimizing disturbance to our neighbors and also to enable everyone to reach home at a reasonable time.

Children and Youth Ramadhan Program

Ramadhan is an opportunity to model behavior and lead younger members of our congregation by example.

Every parent is expected to supervise their children under the age of 13 at all times thus ensuring everyone’s safety and comfort as well as to honor the sanctity of the center. Please do cooperate if a volunteer approaches you and request you to be with your child.

Subject to volunteers availability, special children programs may be arranged for Fridays and Saturdays.

Sunday School update

    • May 19, 2019 will be the last day of classes for year 2018-2019.
    • Sr. Mitra Karami from Food Life Line (www.foodlifeline.org) visited the school on April 21, 2019 and it was decided to help this organization and use this as field trip for the year. 10 people including Parents, Student and Teacher participated on Saturday, May 4th to help the Food Life Line organization (Hunger Solution Center) to help the community.
    • 3rd (Clothing and Shoes) Fun Drive is underway and will last until May 5th. Donations will go to Value Village in Redmond.
    • Sr. Mahdie is working with IMAN Programs Committee and other Sunday School teachers to organize a Qur’an conference for children and young adults that will take place towards the end of Ramadhan 1440 AH.
    • May 19, 2019 will be Teacher, TA’s and Staff appreciation Day. We strongly encourage all parents and students be presented on time and stay for all day at school that day.
  • On behalf of Iman Center, Parents, and Community, we thank all the volunteers for their time, their knowledge and their commitment to the students and to the IMAN Sunday School.

Social Services

We help families approaching IMAN for assistance with their immediate needs (e.g. rent and utilities) and guide them with finding employment when needed.  Families are encouraged to work with organizations close to their place of residence. This month rent assistance was provided to 5 families – two of these requests were through Al Mahdi Center, one from IECS and two from IMAN.

IMAN Executive Committee has recognized that the small social service subcommittee volunteer base cannot sustain the growing number of people who seek financial help from IMAN. Further, people who find themselves in difficult life situations are often in need of more assistance to get back on their feet than the small financial assistance that is provided.  It is for this reason, those applying for assistance to IMAN are now first redirected to contact centers which are in closer proximity to the aid applicant.  By doing so, we hope with time to grow the social service volunteer base that can come to assist people in difficult financial or health situations and also tap into a broader donor pool.

The community dinners in collaboration with St. John’s Episcopal Church are continuing last Saturday of every month.  We are looking for 6-8 dedicated IMAN volunteers on a regular and committed basis.  Around this core group we can proceed with our plan to offer an additional, IMAN led, 2nd Saturday of the month dinner at St. Johns.  Those who would like to get started and commit their time on a regular basis please send e-mail to imansocialservices@yahoogroups.com.

Please note that IMAN does not accept donation items (clothing, food, household items) for Social Services unless the committee specifically asked for them or coordinated the pick-up with the donors. There are several other local organizations that will gladly accept such donations on regular basis, including: https://worldreliefseattle.org/donate-goods

Facilities

On April 1, 2019, IMAN entered into a lease agreement with Parking & Transportation Management Services, LLC that allows the lessee to park up to 50 automobiles in the IMAN Parking lot Monday through Friday (except on Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha and Ashura) between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.  This arrangement will help generate income for IMAN that will be used to help cover our expenses and us improve operations.

On April 17, we suffered an electrical outage which required diagnosis by an electrician. It turned out the outage was due to loss of Phase C of the incoming electricity to IMAN that had to be rectified by PSE.
