• Baked chicken pieces (Only if you decide to prepare the “repetitive, standard” recipe. But we highly encourage you to make your favorite recipes and make it a new and exciting menu every time).

1. Halaal chicken marinated (usually purchased from the Halaal butcher store at Overlake Square across the street from Sears on 148th): Buy/Marinate the night before. You can leave it at IMAN refrigerator or take home for the next day (again, only if you decide to prepare the traditional IMAN recipe).
2. Tomatoes (4 pcs)
3. Salad Dressing (1 container Ranch)
4. Milk (Chocolate) 2 (1 gallons)
5. Soda Bottles 3 x 2Liters
6. Drinking water 1 x 2.5G
7. Salad Mix (4 large iceberg)
8. Bananas (1 dozen)
9. Apples (1/2 dozen)
10. Oranges (1 dozen)
11. Coffee powder for drip coffee machines (1 large tin can)

Required Skills:

Basic cooking skills (grilling, cooking rice, operating kitchen appliances, etc.)

Tasks:

There is no set task distribution model for the cooking event. Everyone present helps as much as s/he can. The tasks that need to be done before and during the event include:

• Buy the groceries (from the list above)
• Prepare/marinate the chicken the night before
• Grill the chicken
• Cook rice
• Cook any sides (if applicable)
• Cut the salad and fruit
• Serve the meal to the shelter residents

Guest speaker

This year we are very fortunate to have Br. Mahmood Dhalla of Birmingham, England as our guest speaker for Muharram. His lectures will be focusing on “Towards a Theological understanding of Imamat and of Husayn ibn Ali (a.s)”. Br. Mahmood Dhalla was born in Uganda in 1970 and grew up in Sweden and Canada. After his high school education and some years of working he enrolled at al-Mahdi Institute for Islamic studies in Birmingham, United Kingdom and was one of its first graduates receiving a BA and MA in Islamic Studies. He is currently involved with various activities at the Institute.

Volunteer

We are counting on your participation, your volunteering spirit, your financial generosity and your moral support to make this a successful Muharram program for all.

We request community members and particularly parents to step forward and help organize an enriching experience for the younger members of our community. In particular, we need volunteers for the 5-14 year age group. Sr. Zina Alnoor has been working towards creating content to be presented to this age group in order to have an inspiring and educational experience for them this Muharram. She needs your help and support as volunteer teachers to use this content and conduct classes for our youth. We also request eligible volunteers to sign up for blood donation. During the winter holiday break, blood centers supplies run low and they are in need of your help at this critical time. In conjunction with other area churches, we have organized this year’s blood drive at IMAN Center for Tuesday December 6th, 2011. This meeting is a time to reflect on last year’s accomplishments, to set the agenda for the year ahead and to nominate members to serve on the Executive Committee (EC) moving forward.  We request all members to ensure that are up to date on their membership and dues.  Please check with our treasurer on your membership status.

The agenda for the AGM is as follows:
-  Annual Report of Activities
-  Financial Statement
-  Subcommittees Report
-  Recommendations for next year
-  Nomination of the Executive Committee
-  Any other business

The five positions and responsibilities that are open for nomination include:
-  President, Vice President: Should have served in the EC in any capacity for a year OR prior position of leadership in other communities. Good interpersonal and presentation skills. Able to represent IMAN publicly
-  Treasurer: Familiarity with accounting practices, good computer skills.
-  Secretary and Joint Secretary: Effective communication skills, written and verbal

Criteria for being on the Executive committee:
-  A Member in good standing
-  Member for at least 1 year.
-  Resident of the greater Seattle Area
-  Should have served in one of the sub-committees for a year

The nomination process will run as follows:
-  Members nominate candidates to the positions above by 10/22/2011. Ensure that the candidates are willing to serve in that position. Nominations can be handed to the secretary or sent by e-mail to iman at iman-wa.org
-  The candidates accept and are qualified for nomination by the board one week before AGM 10/29/2011
-  The candidates will be given a slot during the AGM to express their willingness to serve and ideas.
-  The candidates will be nominated by the members through secret ballot (if necessary)
-  The nomination of the candidates to the board will be finalized through a majority vote at the AGM.

Nomination to serve on the Executive Committee takes place at the IMAN AGM. Actual appointment to serve on the Executive Committee is made by the IMAN board after the AGM.

Lake Sammamish State Park

2000 NW Sammamish Rd., Issaquah, Washington, 98027

Driving Directions:

The park is located one mile northwest of the City of Issaquah and on the south end of Lake Sammamish. On Interstate 90 take exit 15 and go north to NW Sammamish Road which is about one block. Turn left and travel approx. 1/4 mile to the park entrance.

Parking Fees:

There is a fee of $10 per car. However, if you have a Washington State Parks Discover annual pass then bring it with you and you can get in the park free.
