A Prayer for Truth, Justice, and Peace in Palestine and Lebanon

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

Ya Allah, Ya Rahman, Ya Raheem, We turn to You with hearts weighed down by the devastation of the past year. Gaza has endured another tragic chapter of violence and suffering, compounding the 76 years of oppression under Israeli occupation. Innocent lives continue to be lost, and entire communities are shattered by the pain of this unending conflict.

Ya Rabb al-Alameen (Lord of all the worlds), We mourn for every soul taken too soon, for the martyrs who fell under the onslaught of injustice, and for the families left behind in grief. Grant Your infinite mercy to those who have passed, and grant sabr (patience) to those who remain, enduring this hardship. Heal the hearts of those who suffer, and provide relief to all who are oppressed.

Ya Allah, the voices of those who seek justice for Palestine and Lebanon are being silenced. Across the world, advocates for truth and peace are met with censorship both online and offline. The flood of false narratives, propaganda, and deliberate misinformation seeks to obscure the reality of the suffering in Gaza and misguide people from the truth.

Ya Adl (The Just), Ya Haqq (The Truth), We ask You to expose the falsehoods and to elevate the truth. Strengthen the resolve of all people of conscience to rise above the distortion and to stand in solidarity with the oppressed. The genocidal acts in Gaza and the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people must not be silenced. O Allah, give us the courage to challenge these harmful narratives, to amplify the truth, and to strive for a future rooted in justice and compassion for all.

Ya Allah, bring an end to the conflict and bloodshed in Palestine and Lebanon. Grant the oppressors the wisdom to turn toward peace, and strengthen the oppressed so they may hold fast to their dignity. Guide the hearts of world leaders and nations to pursue justice, not power, and to uphold the sanctity of every life.

Ya Muqtadir (The All-Powerful), You are capable of all things. End the cycle of violence and establish a lasting peace rooted in justice for the people of Palestine and Lebanon. Heal the broken-hearted, protect the vulnerable, and let truth and justice prevail over oppression and falsehood.

Ya Salam (The Source of Peace), Make us among those who work tirelessly for justice and truth, as You command. Let us be voices of reason and advocates for a world where dignity, equity, and peace reign for all.

Ameen, Ya Rabb al-Alameen.

Upcoming 2024 Elections

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024. If you are not registered to vote, the last day to register online is Monday, October 28, 2024. Click here for more information on how to Register to vote in Washington

As the national election draws near, it’s time for us to reflect on our role as a community and our level of engagement in the political process. If not for ourselves, we must take action for the sake of our children and their future as Muslim Americans.

Too often, we feel voiceless in the decisions that shape our lives. But we must take responsibility for this silence. If we do not use our voices to engage with civic and political leaders, if we don’t exercise our power to vote, it’s no surprise that we remain dissatisfied with the political reality around us. We must ask ourselves, sincerely: what might we lose if we don’t get involved?

Civic engagement means working to address public concerns and make a positive impact. By voting, we highlight our interests as a community while standing in solidarity with other marginalized groups. Our goal is to shape a world where our values are protected and our vision for society is realized.

However, when we remain silent, others will define that vision for us, and our silence may be interpreted as acceptance.

What does Ayatollah Sistani say about civic engagement?

“Participation in elections—whether municipal, local, or federal—plays a crucial role in shaping the future of a country, society, and generations to come. Those who abstain from voting passively allow others to dictate the future for themselves and their children, which is a mistake no citizen should make.”

“In some cases, Muslims in non-Muslim countries may find it necessary to join political parties to protect their interests. It is permissible to engage in these activities to the extent needed, provided the involvement is guided by consultation with trustworthy community experts who understand these matters.”

“The religious authority does not endorse specific candidates. The responsibility of choosing lies with the citizens.”
