IMANews: 26 Rabi-ul-Awwal 1440 AH / December 4 2018  (Posted On December 4th, 2018 )

Assalamu alaykum,

This is a special announcement for this week’s program at the IMAN Center.

Thursday evening program

In our efforts to improve the Qur’an recitation proficiency of Sunday school students, we are pleased to introduce a successfully piloted and implemented new Qur’an teaching method and syllabus designed Syed Rizwan Muhammad Rizvi. Everyone at IMAN is invited to learn of this new Quran syllabus and method at an introductory session on Thursday December 6th, 2018. Syed Rizwan, who has recently moved to Seattle from Australia, has been teaching Qur’an for 10 years and has designed this course especially for English speakers. The course simplifies complexities found in traditional methods of teaching Quran. It also provides parents the tools to help their children follow the new syllabus at home. The introductory session has a special focus on equipping parents to help their children with pronunciation. Here is a sneak peak of the course.

Sunday School

  • We are in the 7th week of the new school year.
  • Fire drill was conducted on October 28. It took 1 minute 36 seconds to evacuate the building.
  • Our deepest gratitude to the generous donor for the new printer that will be put to good use.
  • Thanksgiving food drive is in progress (From November 4th to November 18th). All collections will be donated to a local foodbank.
  • The school had a Parents meeting and the parents, Teacher / Parents Liaison and school staff was exchanged some ideas regarding the concerns.
  • There will be No school on Sunday November 25, 2018 (Thanksgiving Holiday).

Social Services

We continue to work with families approaching IMAN for assistance. We help local families with their immediate needs (e.g. rent and utilities) and try to guide them with finding employment when needed. Families are encouraged to work with organizations close to their place of residence. This month so far we have assisted 3 families, including single mothers and elderly with medical conditions.

The community dinners in collaboration with St. John’s Episcopal Church are continuing last Saturday of every month. Our one year anniversary of this wonderful collaboration with St. Johns came up in June.

We are looking for 6-8 dedicated IMAN volunteers on a regular and committed basis. Around this core group we can proceed with our plan to offer an additional, IMAN led, 2nd Saturday of the month dinner at St. Johns. Those who would like to get started and then commit their time on a regular basis should contact Abbas Kazmi at (303) 718 4516.

Please note that IMAN does not accept donation items (clothing, food, household items) for Social Services unless the committee specifically asked for them or coordinated the pick-up with the donors.

There are several other local organizations that will gladly accept such donations on regular basis, including: https://worldreliefseattle.org/donate-goods

Community Service Credits

Members of the congregation who need community service credits are required to make arrangements in advance for any service provided to IMAN for which credit will be requested. Service credit certification will only be provided for eligible activities for which prior arrangement have been made and only after the eligible service have been satisfactorily completed. No exceptions will be made.
