Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raje'oon: Syed Yawar Mehdi




It is with immense sadness we inform you of the demise of Syed Yawar Mehdi, son of Syed Hammad Husain, and brother-in-law of Syed Iqbal Rizvi, who passed away in Karachi on January 18, 2022. Marhoom was buried on January 19, 2022, in Karachi.


Syed Yawar Mehdi, a well-known radio icon, started his 40-year broadcasting career with Radio Pakistan in 1962. He served for a long time as a producer of radio program Bazm-e-Talaba and produced countless programs for Radio Pakistan's Karachi station. The programs include: 'Adabi mahakma’, ‘World Cricket Quiz’, ‘Custom Kay Qavaneen’, ‘Daramdaat Baramdaat’, ‘Abr Kia Cheez Hai Hawa Kia Hai’, ‘Aap Pe Guftgu Karain’, ‘Shab Ko Hai Ganjeenayay Gohar Khola’, ‘Behtareen Kitab’, ‘Autograph Book’, ‘Meri Dairy’, ‘Meri Tehqeeq’, ‘Aqwalay Danish’, ‘Muslman Sayyah’, ‘Mulaqaat’, ‘Lafz Sazi’, ‘Filbadeeh Mushaira’, ‘Marhumeen Ka Mushaira’, ‘Subho Dum Darwazayay Khawar Khula’, ‘Pehchan Pe Hai Naz tu Pehchan Jayeeyay’.


As a result of his services, Mehdi established a name for himself in the political, academic, and literary circles. He was also instrumental in the development of the Arts Council, Karachi. He founded Abu Zar Ghaffari Housing Society and lived a life focused on helping those in need.


We convey heartfelt condolences to all dear ones and pray for Marhum's soul to rest in eternal peace in the company of Allah's choicest servants - Aameen.
