Kirkland 4th of July Parade!

Fostering Interfaith Relationships on the Eastside (FIRE) invites members of all faith traditions and communities to walk with us in the 2023 Kirkland 4th of July Parade.

Participants in the parade are encouraged to wear clothing typical for their faith to help show the diversity of faiths participating in the FIRE group, t-shirts promoting peace and understanding, or other clothing of their choice. Those walking should wear sensible shoes; hats and sunscreen are advised (at least, let us hope they’re necessary!). Participants are welcome to carry signs and banners promoting peace, love, unity, and understanding.

The parade starts at Noon. It follows a route through Marina Park and around the downtown core, a total walking distance of about one mile; see the map below. Participants are asked to line up at the designated point in the Market neighborhood north of Heritage Park by 11AM. The position in the parade and the exact location at which the FIRE group will assemble will be assigned around July 1, posted on the FIRE web site, and emailed to all who RSVP.

Those interested in participating in the parade should email rsvp@fire-wa.org. Information on the group’s position in the parade and assembly point will be sent as soon as they are known. Recommended parking locations along with the line-up information will also be provided via e-mail; you can also consider taking King County Metro to the Kirkland Transit Center which is downtown near the parade route.

For more information on the parade, visit https://www.kirklandwa.gov/Government/Departments/Parks-and-Community-Services/Register-for-a-Recreation-Program/Celebrate-Kirkland. For further information on FIRE or our group in the parade, email info@fire-wa.org or contact Toby at 206-790-6377.

Muharram Planning

Br. Hamed Shafazand who has been attending events at IMAN for the last three years is coordinating parent volunteers. Here is what he has to say:

"I am reaching out to ask for your volunteer assistance for our Muharram program for kids at Iman. Participating at Iman’s events has been a wonderful, rewarding journey for me and my family and we are thankful for Allah’s mercy for the opportunity to know our extended family here at Iman.

Brothers and Sisters, as you know Muharram is just around the corner, and it is one of the well participated events at Iman. This Muharram (and InshaAllah any future events) we are asking for your time and commitment to organize nightly programs for kids. We are asking for your time and commitment. We are asking you to help us, to help our children, our essential investment.

Some of you may know my son Ryan (he is 5). He loves coming to Iman and insists on sharing his energy with his fellow friends. Me as a dad all I can do is to guide this energy toward something useful so his time is well spent.

If you have two hours of your time to share for one (or more) nights of Muharram (first 12 nights) at Iman, working with organizers and following their direction to manage children, please let us know! We are planning to have activities for them while parents can participate at Iman’s Muharram program knowing that their child is safe and their time is well spent.

We are asking for volunteers 15 years of age and older to engage in activities planned for two age-based groups: 4-7 yrs and +7 yrs. Volunteers are expected to spend two hours at Iman (evening/night time) with other organizers working with children and keeping them engaged. Activities may include : story telling, book reading, game-based activities, art and craft, and etc. The activities will mostly be led by organizers and volunteers will assist them in managing the events. However, If you like to lead an event or have ideas/suggestions, we’ll be more than happy to hear from you!

So, if you think you can share two hours or more of your time with us, please Email hamed.shafazand@gmail.com with your name, number of hours/nights willing to volunteer and a good contact. Please do so by June 30th and I’ll reach out to you providing more information.

Together I’m sure we can make anything happen.

Thank you for your time and I appreciate your consideration."
