Remembering a life well-lived

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
We belong to Allah, and to Him is our return.
Together with The St. John's family we mourn the sudden death of much-loved member who lost her life in a tragic car accident.
Sheila Stanton, a beloved member of our community who touched the hearts of all who knew her. Sheila's memory will live on in the countless lives she influenced with her kindness, compassion, and unwavering spirit.
None of us chose the day or place of our birth, nor do we choose the moment of our departure. What lies in our hands is how we live between those two moments—how we walk the path, how we treat others, and what we leave behind.
Sheila Stanton walked that path with grace. Her life was marked by compassion and service. For more than a decade, she organized community dinners—not just meals, but moments of connection. She brought people together, fed bodies and souls, and reminded us that love is best served warm and shared. This is the kind of life that prepares a soul to return to her Lord in peace. A life of giving, of healing, of quiet dignity.
The Qur’an reminds us:
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ ۗ وَإِنَّمَا تُوَفَّوْنَ أُجُورَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
“Every soul shall taste death, and you will only be given your true reward on the Day of Resurrection.” (Āl ʿImrān 3:185)
Sheila’s golden heart and generous spirit leave a great emptiness in our community.
But they also leave a living legacy. The love she sowed and the service she gave continue to ripple forward—through every person she fed, every smile she sparked, every hand she held. The best way we can honor her is by carrying forward her example: Feed one another. Care for one another. Lift one another—in her memory, and in her spirit.
At this moment of painful separation, we remind ourselves that death is not an end but a return. A return to the One who created us, who knows our every breath, and who receives the righteous with mercy.
We pray for Sheila’s soul to be received among God’s choicest servants, in the company of those He has favored. And we pray for all of you—her family, friends, and loved ones—to find solace, strength, and resolve in these difficult days.
O Allah, forgive her and have mercy on her. Overlook her shortcomings, reward her goodness with more goodness, and pardon any errors with Your forgiveness.
O Allah, make her grave a garden from the gardens of Paradise.
O Allah, grant her family and loved one's patience and comfort. Reunite us with her in the shade of Your mercy and the intercession of Your Prophets and most chosen servants
IMAN Center Daily Congregational Salaat
Alhamdulillah, throughout Rabīʿ al-Awwal 1447 AH, we have consistently welcomed 6 or more participants each evening for congregational prayers as we completed the study of the 30th Juzʾ of the Qur’an. We warmly invite more families to join us and make at least one daily congregational prayer part of their routine.

But let us remember: faith does not automatically pass from one generation to the next. When one generation only sometimes prays at the Masjid, the next may only sometimes pray at home. Over time, prayer fades—and with it, faith itself.
The challenge is not only the distractions of society; it is in our priorities and commitment to nurturing īmān while there is still time. The faith of our children is not guaranteed; it must be cultivated and protected today.
We were once the children sitting at the back of the Masjid. Our fathers brought us, our elders welcomed us, our teachers guided us. Now it is our turn to continue the circle. If we rise to this responsibility, Islam will live in every home and every heart for generations to come.
Let us not allow today’s silence in the Masjid to become tomorrow’s silence of faith.
Living the Qur’an

We are delighted to invite you to a special “Living the Qur’an” Camp Session on Monday, October 13, 2025.
Led by Imranali Khaki and Tahira Mahdiyya, Living the Qur’an is a unique, experiential, and family-centered program that helps participants of all ages develop a more personal, practical, and meaningful connection with the Holy Qur’an.
Through creative activities, story-based reflections, Qur’an journaling, and interactive challenges, this session will provide both children and adults with engaging ways to discover the Qur’an not only as a book of guidance, but as a living companion in daily life.
We encourage you to review the attached presentation [PDF] for an overview of past camps and to see the inspiring approach Imranali and Tahira bring to Qur’anic learning.

A Prayer for Truth, Justice, and Peace
Ya Allah, Ya Rahman, Ya Raheem, we turn to You with hearts heavy under the weight of devastation. Gaza, and other parts of the Middle East, have endured yet another tragic chapter of violence and suffering, compounding more than seventy-six years of oppression of the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation. Innocent lives continue to be lost, and entire communities are shattered by this unending conflict.
Ya Rabb al-‘Alameen (Lord of all the worlds), we mourn every soul taken too soon, every martyr who fell under the onslaught of injustice, and every family left in grief. Bestow Your infinite mercy on those who have passed, grant sabr (patience) to those who endure, heal broken hearts, and bring relief to all who are oppressed.
Ya Allah, the voices of those who cry out for justice in Palestine are being silenced. Around the world, advocates for truth and peace face censorship, both online and in public spaces. False narratives, propaganda, and deliberate misinformation seek to obscure the reality of Gaza’s suffering and mislead people away from the truth.
Ya ‘Adl (The Just), Ya Haqq (The Truth), we call upon You to expose falsehoods and to elevate the truth. Strengthen the resolve of all people of conscience to rise above distortion and to stand firmly with the oppressed. The genocidal acts in Gaza and the ongoing suffering of Palestinians must not be erased. O Allah, grant us the courage to challenge harmful narratives, to amplify the truth, and to strive for a future rooted in justice and compassion.
Ya Allah, bring an end to the conflict and bloodshed in Palestine and Lebanon. Grant wisdom to the oppressors to turn toward peace, and resilience to the oppressed to hold fast to their dignity. Guide the hearts of leaders and nations to pursue justice over power, and to uphold the sanctity of every human life.
Ya Muqtadir (The All-Powerful), You are capable of all things. End the cycle of violence. Establish a lasting peace rooted in justice for the people of Palestine and Lebanon. Heal the wounded, protect the vulnerable, and let truth and justice triumph over oppression and lies.
Ya Salam (The Source of Peace), make us among those who work tirelessly for truth and justice, as You command. Let us be voices of reason and advocates for a world where dignity, equity, and peace prevail for all.
Ameen, Ya Rabb al-Alameen.

As Muslim Americans, our voices matter. By voting, we protect our values, shape our children’s future, and stand with other communities striving for justice. Silence leaves others to define our vision—let’s ensure our voices are heard.
What does Ayatollah Sistani say about civic engagement?
On participation in elections:
“Participation in elections—whether municipal, local, or federal—plays a crucial role in shaping the future of a country, society, and generations to come. Those who abstain from voting passively allow others to dictate the future for themselves and their children, which is a mistake no citizen should make.”
On political involvement in non-Muslim countries:
“In some cases, Muslims in non-Muslim countries may find it necessary to join political parties to protect their interests. It is permissible to engage in these activities to the extent needed, provided the involvement is guided by consultation with trustworthy community experts who understand these matters.”
On neutrality of religious authority:
“The religious authority does not endorse specific candidates. The responsibility of choosing lies with the citizens.”
September Blood Drive

We extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated blood on Saturday, September 20.
Your willingness to share this lifesaving gift will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of local patients. Your kindness, compassion, and generosity truly make a difference.
That said, participation this time was unfortunately very low:
9 donors registered
1 donor was deferred
6 units were collected
3 first-time donors joined us
For these drives to remain sustainable, we need to consistently reach at least 35 donors at each event. This number is the minimum requirement for Bloodworks Northwest to bring the Bloodmobile to our community.
Bloodworks is a nonprofit organization that sends 4–5 staff members for shifts lasting over eight hours, with buses traveling from Everett, Lynnwood, and Renton. They are the sole blood provider for our local hospitals — including EvergreenHealth Kirkland, Overlake Medical Center, Seattle Children’s, Harborview, and many others. Hospitals rely on them daily, and Bloodworks relies on us to help meet this critical need.
When a drive falls short — especially well below the 35-donor minimum — it becomes difficult for Bloodworks to continue serving our community through these mobile drives.
Together, we can ensure these lifesaving events continue. Thank you again for your support, and we encourage everyone who is able to donate at our next drive.
