Crescent Moon for the Month of Ramadhân 1442 AH

The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) was on April 12, 2021 (Monday) at 2:31 UT.

Ramadhân 1442 AH crescent moon was sighted in San Diego by a few individuals who are considered reliable and credible. However, other people in the same vicinity were unable to sight the crescent moon with the unaided eye.

We also have very reliable report from Northern California from someone who sighted the crescent moon with an optical aid and who knows other Muslims who sighted the crescent moon with an unaided eye.

Shia Ithna-asheri organizations in Southern and Northern California have announced 1st Ramadhan 1442 AH to coincide with April 13, 2021.

Even though San Diego, CA is in a different moon sighting band than Kirkland, WA, empirical data collected over the years suggests that the Ramadhân 1442 AH crescent moon could have been visible to the unaided eye in Kirkland on April 12, 1442 AH after being located with an optical aid.

Ayatullah Sistani's guides us to follow "Contentment attained from rational means".

Those who develop contentment based on crescent moon sighting reports in San Diego, CA and the moonsighting visibility curves shared above can observe 1st Ramadhan 1442 on April 13, 2021. For those who do not share this contentment, may observe 1st Ramadhân 1442 AH on Wednesday April 14, 2021.

IMAN Center will accommodate either of the two observances.

We ask God, the Most Merciful, to bring a swift end to the current pandemic and grant a quick recovery to all those afflicted. And as always, we ask God, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and to hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (A).

Ramadhân Mubarak! May Almighty God accept your fasting and good deeds.
